19/07: Beeston Athletes excel at Eastern Area Athletics

Beeston Hall’s junior athletes enjoyed a wonderful day at the Eastern Area Athletics held this year at the UEA.

The athletes, who had worked hard all term, secured 8 First places, 6 Second places and 4 Third places.  Many of the children also managed to achieve personal bests and all enjoyed the experience of performing against the best athletes in the area in a proper athletics arena.

The stars on the day included Flora Kilpatrick, who powered her way past the line to win the U10 Hurdles in 11.49s, with Kara Kimber coming in fifth in the final.  In the U11 Long Jump we claimed first and second place with Charlie Robson (3m71) and Miles Doncaster.  We also came 1st and 2nd in the high Jump with Fergus Buscall claiming first (1m20) with Charlie Robson second.  Our success in the field events continued with Sam Hamwee winning the U10 Long Jump with a distance of 3m53.
Beeston Hall also had a wonderful run in the 4X100m relays where we came 2nd in three and third in one.  The Girls U10 relay equalled our school record with a time of 67.90s.

Other great performances were Sofia McNeil Wilson coming 2nd in the U10 Rounders Ball throw;  Lucas Nieboer coming 3rd in the U10 Hurdles;  Letitia Bulwer-Long coming 3rd in the U11 Hurdles;  Hermione Coke coming 3rd in the U11 Long Jump;  Georgia Beckett 3rd in the U11 100m and Miles Doncaster 5th in the U11 100m;    Alexander Everett and Kit Hanson-Smith in the Cricket ball throw.

There were two other record breakers, one of which was Catherine Longe, who won both of her events, 200m and 800m and set a new Eastern Area Record in the 800m with a time of 2m49 -  a terrific run!

Honor Buscall was fantastic too.  She was entered in the 75m and 100m.  Honor won her heat in the 100m with a new Eastern area and School record with a time of 15.60 seconds and then went on to win the final in a close race.  She managed the same in the 75m where she was awarded First place in the final with a time of 10.96seconds which was another new Eastern Area and School record!

Well done to all of the children who took part and behaved wonderfully throughout the whole afternoon and to the parents who attended and supported them. Thank you to Nick Jones for organising and running the event with help from Jac Jones, Richard Hamilton and Janet Acott on the day.
