22/09: Chapel Choir at King's Ely Choral Day

On Tuesday 22nd September, 24 members of our Chapel Choir travelled to the King’s School, Ely, for a day of workshops and training, as a “kick start” to the musical year. Pupils from 5 different prep. schools worked together under the directorship of the composer and arranger Alexander L’Estrange.  The mass choir of over 200 children studied music which had been written and arranged by the composer and, after an exhilarating day, performed a concert of these pieces in the wonderful setting of Ely Cathedral.

Other highlights of the day included a very memorable sound walk through the Cathedral, chanting plainsong which was particularly fitting for the venue. We were also treated to inspirational performances by the Ely Cathedral Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs and the more senior Barbers Group. Exhausted but inspired, the Chapel Choir returned to school full of the wonderful music of the day and keen to apply all they had learnt to our own material.
